Full Body Harnesses - A Safe Alternative to Other Safety Gear
A full body harness, also known as a fall protection harness, is a specially designed harness specifically designed to hold the user upright if they were to fall from a considerable height. If worn properly, a full body harness will transfer the force produced by a free fall onto the wearer's body, evenly distributing the force so that the wearer's body is prevented from injury. The harness can also be used for sport and military training purposes, especially suitable for military recruits. Fall protection harnesses can be purchased on the internet or from most high street stores and are also available in a number of sports shops.
As well as being designed specifically for protection, the full body harness also offers other advantages. For instance, they provide an increased comfort for the wearer. They are made from a combination of nylon and spandex, which enables a wide range of motion without discomfort. This makes the harness extremely comfortable and ideal for long distance running and walking. It also ensures a fit and snugger fit around the waist and chest, so that the wearers can continue with their daily tasks without feeling uncomfortable. Because of the comfort level of full body harnesses, many people prefer to wear them, rather than a traditional chest protector.
It is not only in the working environment that full body harnesses are being used, but they are also very popular amongst those involved in sports. Horse riders for example, use harnesses whilst out on a ride, to ensure that they do not sustain an injury during any of the activity. Many equestrians will agree that using a harness not only reduces the risk of serious injury, but it also makes the rider more comfortable during a ride. For race horses, harnesses are often used during training to make the horse less limber so they can compete at higher speeds.
Harnesses may be worn by anyone who needs extra safety, whether this is in the work place or for leisure. One of the main reasons that people wear full body harnesses is to prevent them from falling onto their hands or feet during a fall, whether this is accidental or not. The majority of falls within the work force are caused by a lack of fall protection equipment. When a worker does not wear a fall arrest protection device, there is a very high chance that he will injure his back or legs when falling.
Another important feature of full body harnesses is that they provide a much more secure and comfortable fit. This is because they have a close-fitting torso webbing that fits tightly across the torso and the legs and provides a secure fit. They also feature a shoulder harness, which is similar to the type of neck and back support used on the motorcycle but provides additional security and comfort when worn in the work environment. Some harnesses even feature a wrist and ankle harness that fits over the entire limb, allowing workers to have a better grip on their work equipment.
Many full body harnesses also feature an optional waist belt which can be used to ensure the safety of the wearer when working at heights. The waist belt should be designed so that it can easily be unfastened and removed without damaging the clothing being worn. A full body harness should not be worn whilst operating heavy machinery or in an industrial environment because they offer much less protection than the traditional safety vests or waist belts. As with all work safety gear, it is essential that all workers use full body harnesses, even if they are wearing other forms of safety clothing.
